Davie County Release Meanings
A Davie County release means the person left a particular custody setting. It does not always mean the person went home. The Sheriff’s Davie Detention Center page describes a mainly pretrial jail. A detainee may leave on bond, after a court order, after time served, or at the end of a local sentence. The same person could instead move to another county, the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, federal custody, immigration detention, a treatment setting, or a hospital. The release or movement record should preserve that distinction.
Roster disappearance is only a clue. The Davie portal can show a Release Date and a Held For Agency value, while the jail record can identify the type, time, and destination of the movement. Court records explain whether bond, dismissal, judgment, probation, or another order affected the case. A state offender profile answers a different question: whether a person entered or left NCDAC custody. These records must not be blended.
| Recorded event | What it means | Next record to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or pretrial release | Physical jail custody ended while the case may continue. | Davie release record and eCourts case |
| Time served or expiration | The custodial part shown by that agency ended. | Jail or NCDAC record, then supervision status |
| Probation | A community sentence may be active after jail release. | NCDAC supervision profile and court judgment |
| Parole or post-release supervision | State prison custody ended under enforceable conditions. | NCDAC status and assigned supervision office |
| Transfer | The person left one building but stayed in custody. | Receiving county, NCDAC, BOP, ICE, or USMS path |
| Dismissal or acquittal | A court outcome may explain release. | Complete court register and jail movement record |
Davie County Release Record Fields
A focused county request should seek the existing booking and release sheet plus custody movement entries. Give the full name, a date of birth or another sound identifier, the booking number when known, and a narrow date range. These details help the custodian find one booking without creating a new report. The release record can then be compared with the public portal and court file.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking or custody number | Connects the event to the correct jail stay. |
| Admission date and time | Marks the start of that custody period. |
| Release or movement date and time | Marks the recorded exit from Davie custody. |
| Release or movement type | Separates bond, time served, transfer, and other outcomes. |
| Held For Agency | Shows whether another county, state, or federal agency had an interest. |
| Receiving agency or destination | Can distinguish community release from continued custody. |
| Charge and bond entries | Provide booking context, not the final court disposition. |
| Booking photograph | Links an image to that booking when public and retained. |
A release label must be quoted or explained with care. “Transfer” should never become “freed.” An arrest or charge is not proof of guilt. When two people share a name, compare the booking number, birth data, court number, dates, and agency information before treating records as one person.
Request Davie County Release Records
The Davie County public-record request page routes a submission to the County Attorney, then to the department that keeps the record. Legal review may occur before responsive material is released. This county route does not cover state court records or records held by NCDAC. A request should ask for existing records, not demand that staff answer a question or build a new timeline.
- Identify the person and one booking with a full name, birth detail or booking number, and a narrow date range.
- Request the booking/release sheet and custody-movement entries, including the release type, time, held-for agency, and destination if maintained.
- Choose the existing electronic format when practical. Ask for nonexempt portions and a written legal basis for any withheld field.
- Confirm current copy costs before ordering. Davie’s published policy uses small actual-cost page charges and permits an approved special service charge for extensive work.
- Compare the response with the court register or receiving-agency record when the release reason or destination remains unclear.
The policy gives the custodian several internal response options within two business days, including production, a time estimate, a no-record report, or legal review. That is not a promise of final delivery within two days. Ordinary uncertified copies are generally limited to actual reproduction cost under North Carolina law. Inspection may also be available at reasonable times under supervision.

Davie Release Law and Retention
North Carolina Chapter 132 broadly covers public records made or received in public business. G.S. 132-6 provides access to nonexempt records, and G.S. 132-6.2 addresses available media, actual reproduction costs, and extensive-service charges. An agency need not create a record that does not exist. Criminal investigation material has separate limits under G.S. 132-1.4, although specified basic incident and arrest information remains public.
Online visibility is not the same as government retention. G.S. 121-5 supplies the records-management framework, and no single statute gives every jail release row or booking photo the same life span. A Davie portal result may vanish while a scheduled agency record still exists. A record that was lawfully destroyed need not be rebuilt. Litigation holds, expunction orders, sealing, juvenile law, and court orders can also change access.
Expunction is not automatic. The applicable Chapter 15A route depends on the charge, outcome, age, prior record, and other facts. A public search may omit a sealed or expunged matter, but absence does not prove that an event never took place. Official court guidance or counsel should be used for a current eligibility question.
Find Davie County Released Inmates
The official search path starts with the source that held the person. For the county jail, enter through the Sheriff page and use its inmate-search link. The Davie Zuercher portal supports Release Date and In Custody On filters. A date result can document an exit event, but its Held For Agency and destination still matter. The Sheriff publishes no refresh promise or fixed archive depth.
- Search the exact name and reasonable variants. Match the booking identifiers, age or birth information, dates, and charge context.
- Use Release Date for a past county event. Read Held For Agency, arrest date, holds, bond, and release information together.
- Check NC SAVAN/VINELink for the same person and supplying agency. Treat it as an event cross-check, not a court disposition.
- Call detention or request the jail movement record when the portal cannot establish the release type or destination.
- Read the Davie eCourts register through bond orders, disposition, judgment, and later orders.
- Move to NCDAC, BOP, ICE, or the federal docket only when the custody history points to that system.
The official roster view is visible in the Sheriff portal source below.
The captured interface shows why Release Date and Held For Agency must be read together instead of treating a missing current-custody row as the whole answer.
For a same-day calendar check, the Davie releases from the last 24 hours page explains the local filter limits. A named-person search still needs the full chain above.
Davie State Release Offender Search
The NCDAC criminal offender search gateway covers state prisoners, probationers, parolees, and state history dating back to 1972. It expressly excludes county-jail-only stays. Search by offender number when possible. For a name search, use Inactive and Active Probationer/Parolee separately, or select All and inspect each status. Connect a result to Davie through the conviction county, docket, offense, and dates.
| Search field | Use in a release check |
|---|---|
| Offender Status | Compare Inactive with Active Probationer/Parolee. |
| Last and First Name | Start the identity search; use Sounds Like with care. |
| Offender Number | Best public key for one state correction record. |
| Birth Date or Age Range | Helps separate same-name results. |
| Gender, Race, Ethnic Group | Supporting disambiguators, never the sole match. |
| County and docket in detail | Connect the state sentence to Davie County. |
An inactive incarceration record with an Actual Release Date is stronger evidence than a future Projected Release Date. Active probation, parole, or post-release supervision may appear beside inactive incarceration. That means the person is out of prison but remains under correctional control in the community.
The official NCDAC offender search is shown below.
The state result must be read as a state prison or supervision record, not relabeled as a Davie County jail release.
Davie Court Explains Jail Release
Davie’s jail is mainly pretrial, which makes the court file vital. The North Carolina eCourts Portal can be searched by party or case number. Limit the search to Davie when appropriate, match the record carefully, and read the register through charging events, bond orders, hearings, disposition, judgment, sentence, and later orders. A court date is only a schedule. It is not a case outcome or release record.
The court file can distinguish a bond release from dismissal, probation, or an active sentence. The jail record, in turn, supplies the physical release or movement event that a judgment may not show. When online data is incomplete, the Davie County Courthouse and Criminal Clerk give the local route for court records.
The courthouse source supplies case context, while the jail source supplies the physical release or movement event. Use both when the question needs both facts.
Does a vanished jail row mean the charge was dismissed? No. The person may have bonded out, transferred, or completed a custodial event while the case remains pending. Read the court register.
Davie Release Destination Clues
The Davie portal’s Held For Agency choices make the transfer issue unusually concrete. Listed categories include NCDAC, North Carolina Probation/Parole, INS, USMS, the State Misdemeanor Confinement Program, and outside counties. A value in that field may point to a receiving custodian. It does not prove the final destination by itself, but it tells the researcher which office to contact next.
- NCDAC
- Use the state offender profile and release search.
- Probation/Parole
- Read NCDAC supervision status and the assigned office.
- INS or immigration indication
- Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator and ERO.
- USMS
- Check the federal docket, holding facility, or responsible district.
- Outside county
- Check the receiving county jail and its movement record.
Ask the detention center for the recorded release type and destination if public. “Released from Davie County custody and transferred” is accurate when another agency took control. “Released to the community” is not.
Davie Release Supervision and Reentry
North Carolina separates incarceration status from probation, parole, and post-release status. A state profile may show incarceration as inactive while community supervision remains active. Modern structured-sentencing cases generally use post-release supervision, while discretionary parole mainly concerns eligible old-law cases. The assigned Probation/Parole Office field is the best routing clue after the offender number and identity match.
NCDAC also publishes a Davie County reentry resource directory. It is a starting point, not a promise that each listed service is open or that a person qualifies. Contact the provider and confirm current rules. The fuller Davie parole and probation record page covers status checks, absconder entries, and the state office path.
- Probation
- A court-ordered community sentence or supervision term.
- Parole
- Conditional release that remains relevant mainly to eligible older cases.
- Post-release supervision
- Statutory supervision after physical release from a modern state prison term.
- Discharge
- The formal end of the relevant custody or supervision obligation.
Davie Release Property and ID
The detention page says original incoming letters are placed in inmate property after scanning. That confirms a property system, but it does not publish how property is returned, where it is collected, or which door is used at release. Call the Davie County Detention Center at 336-753-6647 before travel. Do not rely on a general jail practice or assume another county’s procedure applies.
An NCDAC and DMV initiative may provide identification to some eligible people before release from state prison. That program concerns qualifying state-prison releases. It must not be promised to a person leaving the Davie County jail. County property pickup and state pre-release identification are separate issues handled by different agencies.
Note: Davie publishes no verified release-desk hours, property-return procedure, public exit, or family waiting area, so direct confirmation is essential.
Davie Release Facility History
A 2021 county planning record describes an original jail portion dating to the 1930s and a substantial addition opened in 2001. It reported a 72-bed rating and an estimated 58-bed operational capacity after classification limits. The same record proposed a replacement rated for 134 beds with a 200-bed core. The reviewed sources do not prove that proposal was completed, so the plan cannot be presented as a new operating facility.
The Sheriff still identifies the detention center at Green Street. Planning capacity and estimated daily population are not annual release totals. They answer different questions and should not be converted into a release count or average length of stay.
Getting Home After Davie Release
A historical county transportation plan described a PART Davie Express link and YVEDDI demand-response service. No current official jail-door stop, release pickup route, or active schedule was verified in the research. Publishing the old route as current could leave someone without transportation. Confirm any transit option with the operator before relying on it.
Family pickup also requires direct planning because the jail has not published a release door, waiting area, or reliable processing time. First confirm that the event is a community release rather than transfer. Then ask detention about the expected place and practical pickup instructions. Court or agency changes can affect timing.
Davie Release Counts Need Context
The Sheriff publishes annual reports, and the county planning record includes capacity and population planning data. Those sources are not interchangeable. No verified annual release total or average stay was extracted for this project. A bed rating measures designed capacity, while a release count measures custody exits over time. Neither can be calculated safely from the other.
Use a dated annual report only for the exact metric it states. Do not label bookings as releases, treat transfers as community exits, or turn a planning projection into a completed facility fact. This distinction protects the accuracy of Davie County release reporting.
Davie Federal Release Checks
Federal sentenced prisoners use the BOP Inmate Locator, which covers records from 1982 forward. A result marked Released or Not in BOP Custody means the person left BOP control. It does not rule out supervised release, state custody, ICE detention, or another agency. Search by register number when available, then compare the federal docket when the legal reason matters.
The federal result confirms only the BOP boundary, so a receiving agency or supervision record may still be needed.
The ICE Online Detainee Locator is a separate civil immigration tool for current detainees and people released from ICE custody within its recent window. USMS offers no nationwide public person locator for federal pretrial custody. Use the federal docket, holding facility, counsel, or responsible district. NC SAVAN/VINELink bridges several state and local event feeds, but it does not cover BOP custody.
The North Carolina Sex Offender Registry has a narrower role. It may show a released registrant whose conviction triggers registration, but it is not a general released-inmate list.
Most released people will not appear in that registry, and an absent result says nothing about unrelated custody or convictions.
| Status question | Primary source | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Current Davie jail custody | Davie portal and detention center | A missing row is not release proof. |
| Past Davie jail exit | Release Date plus jail movement record | Confirm transfer versus community release. |
| State prison release | NCDAC profile and release search | County-jail-only stays are excluded. |
| Federal prison release | BOP locator | Another sovereign may still hold the person. |
| Immigration custody | ICE locator and ERO | The public locator is not a permanent archive. |
Davie Release Facilities and Systems
Only the Davie County Detention Center is the local county jail in this facility map. No active NCDAC prison, BOP institution, or ICE-owned center was identified inside Davie County. The other pages describe systems or nearby facilities that may receive a person after a documented transfer. Facility assignment must come from the actual custody record.
- Davie County Detention Center: county jail releases and transfers.
- North Carolina state prison system: statewide sentence and discharge records.
- Piedmont Correctional Institution, Rowan County: nearby NCDAC prison, not a presumed destination.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons system: federal sentenced-custody releases.
- Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention network: immigration custody and recent ICE release checks.
- U.S. Marshals Service custody: federal pretrial and transport custody.
Note: verify the booking number and receiving agency before following a transfer into another system.
